In crisis or thinking about harming yourself? Get help now

How it works

Simple on purpose.

Starting therapy is hard enough. We removed everything that gets in the way: waiting lists, phone tag, guesswork about price, and being handed to whoever is free.

Find my therapist

  1. Tell us what you need

Answer nine short questions: what you would like help with, how you prefer to talk, and what kind of therapist you would feel at ease with. Your answers stay on your device until you create an account.

    About two minutes

  2. Choose your therapist

You see a short list of therapists who fit, each with their training, approach, languages and free times. Pick one, or two, and book a free intro call.

    15 minutes, free

  3. Have your first session

If the intro feels right, book a full 50-minute session. You and your therapist agree on what to work on and how often to meet.

    Evenings and weekends available

  4. Keep going, your way

Pay per session or month by month. Move between video, phone and chat. Space sessions out as things improve. Switch therapist or stop at any time.

    No minimum term

Ways to talk

Pick the format that fits the day.

  • Video

Face to face from your sofa. The closest thing to being in the room.

  • Phone

Just voices. Good for walks, low-bandwidth days and camera-shy moments.

  • Live chat

A real-time session in writing, for when typing is easier than talking.

What a session is like

Fifty minutes that are only yours.

You join through a private link from your phone or computer. There is nothing to install. Your therapist will ask what has been happening, listen closely, and help you make sense of it. Depending on their approach you may leave with something to notice or try before next time.

You set the pace. You never have to talk about anything before you are ready.

What happens in a first session

  • Find a private spot and use headphones
  • Join a couple of minutes early to check sound and camera
  • Bring two or three things you want to mention
  • Leave ten quiet minutes afterwards

Common questions

What is mymind?

mymind is an online therapy clinic. You answer a few questions, we suggest licensed therapists who fit, and you choose who to work with. Sessions happen by video, phone or live chat, from wherever you are.

Is online therapy as good as seeing someone in person?

For common concerns such as anxiety, low mood and stress, research over the past two decades has repeatedly found that therapy by video works about as well as therapy in a room. What matters most is the fit between you and your therapist, which is why we let you choose and make it easy to switch.

Online therapy is not the right setting for everyone. See “Is mymind right for me?” below.

Is mymind right for me?

mymind is a good fit if you are an adult (or a teen aged 13–17 with a parent’s consent) who wants to talk to a professional about how you feel, your relationships or a change in your life.

It is not the right place if you are in immediate danger, are having thoughts of ending your life, or need urgent or inpatient care. In that case please use the resources on our Get help now page.

How quickly can I start?

The matching questions take about two minutes. You then see therapists with their next free intro slots and book directly. Most people can speak to someone within a few days, depending on the times you are available.

Do I need a diagnosis or a referral?

No. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral or a “serious enough” reason. Wanting to feel better is reason enough.

Which languages do you offer?

Therapy is available in English today. We are adding therapists who work in Spanish, German and French next. If you would like therapy in another language, tell us in the matching questions and we will let you know when it is available.
